Once upon a time, a client was billed penalties and interest by a state

taxing authority, which I successfully argued to be abated. Authority sent client a statement with a zero balance due... On an invoice.

Authority then proceeded to send a statement demanding payment for $0.00. Then the demands became threatening. They wanted to put a lien on accounts. My client actually sent them a check for $0.00 to make them stop. Which they did.

True story.
